The power of teaching lies in our connection with children. Every child wants to be seen and acknowledged for the different gifts, background, and history they bring to the classroom.
The heart guides a teacher as much as data drives instruction. Academic instruction without heart is simply acquired information. The classroom community and relationships are the heart of learning and bring validity and purpose to the learning process and academic performance of the student.
When children feel happy and safe, they learn. In order to be present for our children and create these vibrant learning communities, we must equip our educators with tools to navigate the stress and challenges of the profession and teach these social emotional competencies. When teachers are well, children are well.
